What is the SDJBL?

Basketball is an international sport involving people with varying levels of skill and abilities and because of this it is one of the highest participant sports in Australia. It caters for all ages, genders, cultures, economic status and playing capabilities. The Southern Districts Junior Basketball League is a local competition for junior basketballers in the southern suburbs and country areas south of Adelaide. The purpose is to provide a competition that is accessible without overburdening families with the time and financial commitments of the District basketball system. The focus will be providing players, referees and coaches the opportunity to learn and enjoy basketball without the intense pressure of District basketball.

How can you participate?

1. Bring your own team – without training

This option is for your child if they have a team of at least 7 players, with a Coach (non-playing coach), where they do not wish to train. This could be a Tigers Domestic team who are happy to wear the Tigers uniform, or a newly formed team with a different uniform. The key items are no training, 7 players +  non playing coach and all players must wear the same uniform. This option will be charged at $30 per player for the season.

2. Bring your own team – with training

This option is for you if you have a team of at least 7 players, with a coach (non-playing coach) and wish to train. This will be a Southern Tigers affiliated team, so all players will need a Tigers  Domestic Uniform. You will train on Sunday’s, as is the case for our Domestic teams currently and pricing remains the same, at $160pp for the season. This allows you the option to keep a group of players together that want to play together plus have an allocated training each week. If you have 5 or 6, that want to play together, let us know and we may be able to allocate you some additional players to bring you to 8. Please note must have a coach to nominate a team.

3. Individual registration

For players who aren’t already part of a team. Registering under this option means that we will assist you in finding a team join. Please note that we do rely heavily and parents to assist with the coaching of a team in our Domestic competition so if you have sound knowledge of the game of basketball/ have played before, and can assist in coaching, we’d love to hear from you. For our individual registration option, children will be placed in a team, coach confirmed, training will be on Sundays for one hour and a Tigers Uniform will be required. This option is $160pp for the season excluding uniform.

Uniforms / Playing Numbers:

Once the player has registered and received confirmation that they have been placed in a team, the player will need to be issued with a STBA  players number. STBA Domestic player numbers are issued by the office please email

NOTE: Player numbers DO NOT transfer between Domestic & District. If you are a Domestic player going into the District competition please be aware you may be required to purchase a new top with a new playing number if there is already the same number in the District side. Occasionally, we may be able to issue you with the same number, however, it is not always  guaranteed. The longest-serving person in District will keep their number first.

NOTE: If you intend on purchasing a second-hand uniform you must first check with the above listed to determine whether or not the player number is available. If it is available, your number will be registered on our system. If you obtain a second-hand top and do not register the number, you will be expected to change numbers (buy a new top) in the event of a clash with an existing player or any future player.
